Currently, our chimney looks like this:
with our comfy, cozy sitting room looking equally as lovely:
The chimney worked started today. Being two days behind schedule because of a worker's illness, the company sent two crews out today to try to catch up. Shards of terra cotta came raining down the chimney all afternoon, as the men jackhammered the remaining bits of the terra cotta off.
Tomorrow, more jackhammering is in store and then they will fed down the chimney, this aluminum tubing.
The first 12 courses of bricks will be relaid on the chimney, and capped off with terra cotta lining and a proper cap. Should be done by Saturday, weather dependent, of course. Fingers crossed for no more rain.

What a mess all over the new roof!
I know! They say that they will be done with the sitting room, only to deal with the boiler/flue in the basement on Monday and rebuilding the outside chimney. But with the weather system heading our way....who knows what that will do to the schedule.
