The Reclining Buddha

In the temple called Wat Pho (in Thai, "wat" seams to mean "temple), which is considered Bangkok's oldest wat,  there is a golden reclining Buddha.

The Buddha is massive!  He stretches out to be 46 meters long and about 15 meters.  He faces the direction West, and symbolizes when Buddha laid down to die and pass into nirvana.

The temple supposedly also has the most images of Buddha anywhere in Thailand, but you can't really focus on that when you are staring at this huge reclining man.

The feet at the more interesting part-- the soles of them are inlaid with intricate  scenes made with mother-of-pearl.

Jen and I went to see this Buddha while Will waiting outside.  Walking without shoes, and in the presence of Buddha, the people visiting are very quiet.  The only sound you hear is the sound of coins hitting prayer pots.  20 Bhat dollars gets you 20 Bhat in coin and you drop coins in as you say a prayer, walking down a row of pots collecting the both the prayers of the coins.
