The Stones Aren't From Around There

Will and I are on a tour of The West. As we drove out of London, you see signs to "The West". Very Tolkin-esque actually.

The first stop: Stonehenge. Now, to really appreciate my excitement of seeing Stonehenge, you first have to watch this Eddie Izzard video.

So, imagine my excitement to actually SEE it IN PERSON!!

First, you have to appreciate that it is really next to an intersection. You can see it from the highway, which is a bit weird considering how famous this is.

But we parked, walked through an underground tunnel (painted, by the way, with cheesy scenes from pre-historic times), and then we walked around the stones. You can't get up next to the stones any more (vandals ruined that for everyone). But it still is pretty amazing to think that these have been here since 2500BC or longer and we still can't work out actually for what this place was used.

Now, you have to appreciate also, that it is a week before the Summer Solstice. Next week, traffic will be terrible because of all the crazy druids coming to the site (history lesson: Stonehenge has nothing to do with the druids. It was there long before the druids existed). However, there is nothing like being early to a big shindig:
There were three of them there, front row. Waiting for the return of the ancestors. Not sure what that exactly means, but they are pretty serious about wanting their return. Nothing says more seriousness than a hand-painted bedsheet with your demands.

I detect a bit of sarcasm. Does that mean that the hand-painted bedsheet I made for your wedding gift is out? It has a great skull! You'll like it when you see it.

There are no words for my jealousy. I want to go to there...

Love the Izzard connection. Perfection.
