Beans and Peas, Grounded

We planted our beans and peas this weekend, carefully winding the shoots around the twine in our trellises.  Our scarlet runner beans were about 2 feet tall, with the bush beans not far behind.  The sugar snap and snow peas (first photo) are a bit more delicate, and therefore raising more concern since the weather is supposed to turn cold tonight and remain so for the rest of the week.  We used  straw as mulch, as it will be a great way to keep the potatoes, beans, and peas moist as well as warm.   We will wait until the beans and peas get half up the trellis and then start a second crop.  By the time the first crop is producing vegetables, we will be able to plant the second round.

Are you planning to direct sow the next phase? Once it's warm you could do that.
