And Now: the Sink

"It's a minor drip-- that is all we have, now."

Let me emphasize the "now" in that statement of Will's.

Both drains in the tub and sink in our bathroom are what plumbers would call "slow". They are are as slow as molasses in winter. They drain, just on their own sweet time.

We have a 25 foot snake just for the reason: periodically we have to snake the drains in order for them to drain at a more reasonable rate. After a go at the tub (still not truly cooperating), Will moved onto our sink.

I am not sure what possessed him to take apart the u-bend; it had to have been the fact that the drain still wasn't working properly. Once he removed that, all this disgusting, black water and gunk fell out of the pipes (and onto the floor, as you can see). He did pull an impressive hair ball that was causing the blockage though.

In the putting the u-bend back on did we have new issues: the pipe leading into the wall is corroded to the point that it cracked and broke off. Will hi-tailed it to our hardware store before it closed for the night to get some threading tape and other plumber tricks-- Milton, the manager, passed on his greetings to me. Isn't that nice?-- and then Will was back at it. We were able to put the u-bend back on the bit of pipe that isn't corroded off.

This had created a new issue: the u-bend no longer fits perfectly to the join to the wall and so every time we use the sink, water slowly leaks out of the pipes. We need a slightly wider u-bend. We are assuming that they make them.

In the meantime, however, as Will stated: it's just a minor drip now. Uh-huh. I am using the guest room's bathroom instead.

I think you guys have reached the point where you need to start inviting the hardware people to dinner.
