We have a new orchid that had bloomed. Will bought this plant several years-- before he had even meet me-- and it has never bloomed. He typically buys an orchid from a store after it has bloomed, when the plants are a fraction of the price. It is his challenge: it see how long it takes him to get them to rebloom.
For this orchid, he lost count how many years it has taken (definitely over 6). He nearly gave up on it (instead he rotated it in the pot). His mother determined it would never bloom unless we started adding plant food (he didn't).
But suddenly, at the beginning of the summer, a new spike was sent up. The spike turned into a stem with 6 pods on it. And finally two of the pods have opened to reveal white star blossoms that are beautiful. Well worth the wait!
